Browsing the forums, I found a post which strikes a chord with how I feel about an important phase of the game - chat etiquette. I've been in too many games (mostly pubs) where some loudmouth a-hole loses the game for his team. It's somewhat fun when you see a team lose one teamfight and crumble as a result, but it's terrible when that happens to your team. I can't stress how important it is to bounce back, be constructive, and fight the urge to spout off.
1 - My team mates are doing poorly so it is my solemn duty to ***** at them.
If this is your attitude, then you probably have a habit of indirectly contributing to your team's defeat, and it's no surprise that you can't escape the 1200 ELO bracket.
You might be right and they might be playing like a nub, but anyone who understands basic psychology should know that dissing on someone until they become ****ty and defensive is one of the worst imaginable ways to improve somebody's cooperation in a game where, in spite of possible Suckitude, every character is crucial to victory.
Give tips. Assume leadership. But be concise and be constructive. You'd be surprised at how much more effective it is to say "No more wandering alone; everyone, group up" instead of "stop feeding jackass. god you're so terrible." On that note....
2 - Courtesy and sportsmanship are for losers; it is my solemn duty to flaunt my superior KDR to all who oppose me.
Considering that a lot of my are comments filled with jokes bordering on lowbie-ridicule, I may sound a little hypocritical arguing for an increase in courtesy during games. But honestly: there is no reason to think that being mature, polite and dignified to your team and the enemy alike makes you a scrub player who will never succeed at anything more than pub-stomping as Ryze. "Don't be a jackass whether you're winning or losing" is an expectation for just about every sport at the upper competitive levels, and even at lower tiers of gameplay where people actually play this game for the fun of it (unthinkable!), Riot is precisely in the right to enforce a Summoner's Code and for banning people whose enjoyment can only be gained at the expense of others. You can continue to go about and be a **** convinced of your superiority over others, but it doesn't make you a better player: if anything, it makes you less likely to succeed and flourish in upper-level gameplay.
