This is a builder tool with a lot of depth. I love it.

last night was fun, and i was impressed with turtkot's nunu.

for guys not used to playing with an aura sivir on their team, here's the gist:

aura sivir will make late game team battles the most easiest shit on earth. sivir's ult (max level) + stark's fervor = +62.5% Attack Speed + 20% Lifesteal + 30 Health/5 sec + 25 Armor Reduction (to opponents).

basically, you're getting a combination of the items Malady and Last Whisper when sivir does her ult, and you'll cut through the enemy like a hot knife through butter. there's a catch though. this requires teamwork, and in late game, team fights are key (as opposed to mid game, which is characterized by ganking). aura sivir is an initiator of team fights. when you hear yell "unnngggh" like she orgasmed, that's everyone's cue to be hyper aggressive and start killing shit. no need to play conservative with aura sivir's ult up; the life steal gives you survivability, and the armor reduction and increased attack speed ensures you'll take down your opponents faster than they can take you out.

at the same time, if there's an aura sivir on the other team, you'll now know what to expect when you hear her yell.

here's my build for ryze. this is for wren, and anybody else who wants to play the free ryze this week.

item build:

1. sapphire crystal + 2 health potions
2. tear of the goddess (built from sapphire crystal)
3. boots of speed
4. sorcerer's boots (built from boots of speed)
5. blasting wand
6. archangel staff (built from tear of goddess and blasting wand)
7. blasting wand
8. negatron cloak
9. abyssal scepter (built from blasting wand and negatron cloak)
10. blasting wand
11. amplifying tome
12. void staff
after that, it's all gravy. go for zhonya's ring if you want.

for the first three levels, pick your abilities in this order
W ability (rune prison)
Q ability (overload)
E ability (spell flux)

after that, always prioritize on your ult, then Q, then W, then E.

early game - laning
whether mid or top/bot, you can champions much easily than the others, imo. use your W or Q to constantly harrass. the trick is to get your opponents to half health. psychologically, opponents won't hug towers in a lane until their health gets to 25%. so feel free to take your time and take pot shots at your opponents with W or Q, and use your physical attacks to last hit minions. once you get a person to half health, you and your teammate must work together. use your G button to mark who you want to attack (or if on vent, just say it). then use this combo: W --> Q --> E. your teammate should also rush in and pound on the guy. doesn't matter if the opponent's teammate is there too, if you kill your target, he will either flee, or kill one of you. it's important to kill even if you get killed, because there's so much psychological shit that happens. they will lose confidence, play more defensively, etc. likewise, letting an opponent live with only 30 hp remaining will only embolden him. make sure you get that kill!

mid game - ganking
you should be level 6, have at least your sorcerer's boots, and your ult. you can stay in your lane and level some more, or you can now roam and gank mid. my preferred combo is R --> W --> Q --> E, although some do E before Q to reduce the target's magic resistance. ryze is considered an assassin class, so you have to be sneaky, hide in bushes, flash in (at higher summoner levels), etc. no experienced player will get near ryze unless they're protected by a spell blocking ability. so it's best if you enter the battle when an opponent is already stunned, or not expecting you, or busy running for his life. your damage is still not powerful, so make sure when you gank, the opponent's health should be less than 80%. or, if it's 100%, make sure your teammates polish off the unfortunate nub. rinse and repeat for the rest of mid game.

late game - team fights
this is where teamwork matters! ryze is NOT A TANK, so don't expect him to initiate fights. he will get stunned and raped way before he can pull of his burst combo. then you lose a good deal of your firepower. ideally, you'll want a tank up front, soaking up damage (and please, if you see a tank in the middle of 5 enemy guys, at least give him some love and help him attack... otherwise the tank will die a relatively slow and useless death). once the team fight begins, that's when you rush in, target a squishy, and unleash your combo. with any luck, you'll kill your target, and do at least 50% damage to his teammates. if you have abyssal scepter, i've seen the opponents go down to only 10% of their health. at which point, they will start running. then you just chase and clean up.

what ryze is not:
he's NOT A TANK
he's not a pusher
he's not a defender (i.e., if he's guarding a tower against 3 opponents, he will lose)
he's not fast
he's not sturdy
he's not a good /dancer

other notes:
even when things seem hopeless, you still have a chance of winning if you play good. i've seen games where the other team lost even though they had more than double the kills. i've seen games where a team is getting raped in early and mid game, only to survive in late game by defending base and reaching 18. at that point, all advantages of items and being outleveled are lost, and the playing field is even. i've even had the honor of being Sivir on a team with 4 tanks!!! and we went against a team filled with 4 level 30 carry champions. guess who won in 18 minutes? yup, sivir and the 4 tanks. how does that happen? easy. with sivir's ult, the 4 tanks mowed through all the towers like it was nothing! so even though the other team had way more kills, by the 16th minute, we destroyed all their towers. on the 18th minute, the nexus was destroyed with the help of super minions. and the sad part is that the other team could not surrender because it wasn't 25 minutes yet.

Groovy!

Pretty soon we need to get some theorycrafting threads up.

I think the different styles of play are (generally)

stealther (eve, twitch, shaco)
tank (blitz, mundo, chogath)
Ranged carry DPS (ashe, sivir, corki (twitch also fits here))
Ranged caster (ryze, annie, veigar, karthas)
Melee carry (jax, Yi, gangplank, warwick)

An ideal group setup imho will consist of 3 ranged classes (1 in each lane), consisting of at least 1 ranged carry, and 2 melee classes (1 tank and 1 melee dps). Group setup should consist of at least 2 characters capable of stun, and 1-2 characters capable of snare. Silence is a plus.

Would be cool to theorize an ideal 5 man team from this,

My attempt would be
Ashe - ranged carry, lots of slow (multishot, and her active arrow skill), AND small radiius AE stun (ultimate)
Annie - ranged caster(AOE Stun (tibbers), burst)
Alistar - PBAOE stun, knockback. Top tier tank with huge damage mitigation (ult)
Gangplank - melee dps carry, and sorta like a backup tank. can almost even lane early as ranged dps sorta, due to parrlay, though in this build its not necessary, as he'd be paired up with a ranged class anyway. Ultimate is damage+snare in a huge radius, great for teamfights. Also can soak up alot of damage due to his self-heal/snare removal.
twitch - ranged carry dps + stealth, has snare, because he is a carry, and due to the nature of his ult, he brings insanely HIGH AOE (line) damage for teamfights (great for combo with tibbers or ashe!)

Thus, this team setup gives us:
stuns- annie(passive) (medium sized aoe ranged w/tibbers), ashe(ult- small radius, longer range, chance to miss, long cooldown), alistar (pbaoe, chance to miss, medium cooldown)
snares- ashe (snares are like her specialty), twitch (activatable, he needs to get hits on target first, good to stop runners after a team fight), gangplank(ult - HUGE AOE) (use anywhere on map!!! 60 sec cooldown~, some randomness in effect)
heals- gangplank (self), alistar (pbaoe, small amount healed, but easy to spam if he has the mana)
map info (scouting by twitch) (possible to die if seen by detection)
AOE damage - Annie (ult and cone), twitch (ult, missile attack most effective if enemies stunned or slowed), gangplank (ult)
Burst damage - Annie - typical build has 3 activatable nukes + deathfire grap (item) which does 35%-40% of targets current health instantly with ~40sec cooldown, great for taking down tanks!!!)
carries - this build gives us no less than 3 carry classes (gangplank, twitch, ashe) for late game domination.
ganking! - twitch is awesome for setting up ganks across all lanes!

synergies:
1) Annie(in her lane) and twitch (stealthed, floating) could set up ganks very easily
2) Annie (ult + stun) OR gangplank (ult) combined with twitch's ult = rape, This is because moving enemies are sometimes able to dodge twitch's shots (if they run a wide circle around twitch), or just run out of twitches range (which vastly drops his dps)
3) Alistar can push in, and intially stun enemies when they jump on him with his PBAOE stun.. From his stun, annie can then get into position and follow up with tibbers (yet another aoe stun) There is no diminishing return on stun effects in LOL. This would be an incredible (idealistic) team combat initiator scenario, but its actually not that hard to do!
4) For early laning, both ashe and annie have a near max (if not max) range on their basic attacks. this makes it very easy for them to harass enemy champions and create opportunities for ganks (with twitch)
5) For finishing off runners who might get away, both ashe and gangplank's ults can be used. Gangplank can activate his ult anywhere on the map, and ashe's arrow has unlimited range (though it is a skill shot)
6) gangplank can harass enemies in a teamfight scenario with parrlay to weaken them before the fight happens. If he gets into trouble, alistar can save him with charge/pbaoe stun. This prevents alistar from getting into trouble without the team being in position. When alistar rescues gangplank, this transitioins nicely into point #3, which annie can then unleash tibbers, and gangplank/twitch/ashe can join combat against the numerous stunned targets. Ashe can also back up gangplank while he's playing agressive by launching her multishot every 4 seconds. This keeps enemies slowed and makes their movements much more telegraphed!!! (ie. easy to read, predict) It gives you more time t respond to enemy actions and back up your teammates appropriately.
7) Ashe's ult arrow is useful for 'oh shit' scenarios. (stealther pops on the backline, a fight goes bad and the team needs to retreat, etc) The stun when used at closer ranges is not likely at all to miss (as the player isnt likely to miss the skill shot even if they're fairly noob). Ashe also works well with all of the stun, by guaranteeing specific targets either (a) dont get away, or (b) don't get near our backline.

I would strongly suggest that we get people to unlock some of these characters and get familiar with them. If people are on board with getting an organized premade down, it would be very beneficial to
a) have people pick and unlock a character that fits into an architected build
b) practice extensively with that character
c) unlock an alternate character that also fits in the build.

Even if we successfully field this team setup, we still have room to grow in both general gameplay and also in team coordination with these specific characters. Thus, i dont expect miracles right off the bat as people learn the roles, however i would be disappointed if i didnt see marked improvement.

I know this is a time investment for people who don't have the resources to buy the champion packs, but if we want to see more success in public games we need to both refine our play and coordinate our builds. (eventually this will include which summoner abilities and even which items we buy in-game)

I am posting this mainly because after talking with blake last night it seemed obvious to me that he is pretty strongly motivated to be successful (read: win) at this game. I'd say this would be a good first step in that direction.

If people are interested in going along with this, post which chars you'd be interested in unlocking/playing, and maybe we can get something going tonight. I personally am willing/able to play proficiently any character listed above except for alistar.

I was also thinking me and brillo could make smurf characters so that we can learn (as a team) without going against so many 30s.

Turkot - you seem to have an aggressive playing style, so Rammus and Annie are a good choice. Two different styles (tank v. ranged caster), but you can play aggressively with both.

According to Wren, it seems that the IP prices of characters will vary over time. I remember paying only 450 for annie, now it's up a notch. So I guess if you got free cash, buy the 450's. Maybe some patches later, they'll be OP.

Xaanix, good essay on team build. I don't mind making a second account. Oh, and just to throw a wrench in your team build plan, I will be playing Soraka from now on. MUAHHAHAHA.

Wait, I shouldn't laugh, I played a game where a Soraka had the second highest kill ratio on the team... needless to say, you can guess how bad that game was. smile

I've been playing since closed beta too. My roommate and I regularly 2 man premade, I main Alistar and he mains Sivir.
Our ELO's pretty reasonable, its not top 500 (as far as you can tell from Pendragon's last public list) but we do get matched with those guys regularly so I'm confident we're not terrible smile
If you guys want to run some 5 man premades I'm definitely down. LoL's the only game I have installed on my computer here on campus so it would be sweet to actually play with the guild again.

I think its a solid 5 man but with Gangplank as the weak link.
That's just my opinion and it really just depends on the team's playstyle.
If you find your team's playstyle synergizes well with Gangplank as a teammate then go for it obviously but I can think of 2 other champions that bring just as much to the team and more in terms of raw ability.

First is Twisted Fate. Even with the remake and nerfs (debatable whether or not they're actually nerfs...) TF is still one of the strongest if not still the strongest map controller in the game. Gangplank's ult is nice in terms of map control but TF's just much more built for it. Not to mention he shuts down enemy stealth carries like no one else.

Second is Pantheon. If you're looking for a melee DPS that can harass early and carry strong in the late game while maintaining excellent map control, he's pretty much better than Gangplank in every one of those aspects. The only thing Gangplank's got over Pantheon is early/mid game lane harassment but thats only if he's crit stacking runes and spamming Parrley like a fiend. Pantheon's ult used properly trumps cannon barrage because it doesn't just do damage it also helps position him as your melee carry in a 5 man team fight. Not to mention its more reliable then random cannon balls. To top it all off Pantheon has a stun and GP doesn't.
The only thing that GP can do that Pantheon can't do at all is the speed buff (which is totally useless if you're not fighting near your own minions) and GP has a natural heal debuff (another situational benefit at best).

But like I said, none of that matters if you either a) have a kickass Gangplank player or b) have a team playstyle that just simply works with GP.

Thats my 2 cents smile

EDIT: with all that being said, I highly recommend replacing Gangplank with Pantheon. I can't play Pantheon worth shit but I've got some guys on my friends list that I team with that totally raise hell with him and I wouldn't trade him for a Gangplank of equal skill.

cool, valuable advice, thanks!

I'll take another look at pantheon. I've seen people try to main tank with him and it never worked out too well, i guess as a melee carry, he's probably a lot better.

The one thing i'd say about TF is that he probably has (or at least had) the highest skill cap in the game. I've just finished playing 5/6 matches with the new TF and did pretty well with him. He's a bit simpler to use now than he was before i believe, but to a new player i think the ultimate can still be a bit tricky, and whoever uses him has to be good with gold card (which actually seems alot easier now).

TF's still the first ban pick in most tournaments so it goes to show how ridiculous he is. He's pretty much present in every high ELO 5 man.
He's still widely considered OP as hell but the truth is he's mostly a pub stomper and I don't have much trouble with him unless someone on my team is feeding him.
He's definitely more balanced since his remake though. He used to be able to teleport into the bush between your first and second top lane tower and drop a ward and then his whole team would teleport to the ward. That pretty much guaranteed first blood for his team. But again, that only worked against pubs and the people who complain about him most are people who solo queue.

In your premade I'd choose Pantheon over TF just cause you need that melee DPS.

If you want to try out melee DPS champs, definitely check out Udyr and Jax.

I'm sooooo sorry you've encountered TANK Pantheons...thats really unfortunate. I'm lucky enough to have never seen one.

Oh and what are all your summoner names?
